Malbork Castle – Europe’s grand medieval fortress

This is the largest medieval castle in Europe that has been preserved. The three-part fortified Gothic fortress consists of the Low Castle, the Middle Castle, and the High Castle. The most beautiful view of the castle is from the side of the river – Nogat, and from the castle tower there is a charming panorama of the surrounding area.

Malbork Castle is the most powerful fortress in medieval Europe. The castle was built by the Teutonic Knights in the 13th century. Over the next centuries, when Malbork became the capital of the Teutonic Order, the fortress was significantly expanded by adding the Great Refectory and the Grand Master’s Palace.

Malbork Castle is an impressive red brick wall as well as a defensive wall with towers and gates. Visitors can admire the ingenuity of medieval builders while viewing the interesting and quite innovative central heating system for those times.
