Ferry: The most common way to get to Fraser Island is by ferry. Ferries depart from both Hervey Bay and Rainbow Beach. The ferry ride from Hervey Bay takes about 50 minutes, while the ferry ride from Rainbow Beach is shorter, at around 20 minutes.
Barge: If you’re bringing your own vehicle, you can take a barge from Inskip Point near Rainbow Beach to Hook Point on Fraser Island. The barge ride itself is quick, taking only about 10 minutes.

Once on the island, most roads are sandy tracks accessible only by four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles. While you can rent a 4WD vehicle on the island, some companies that offer barge services from Rainbow Beach also allow you to take your own vehicle on the barge.
