Euromast – a Rotterdam landmark Offering Unforgettable experiences
Euromast is an observation tower in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The 185-meter-tall tower is the tallest building in the Netherlands that is open to the public. Due to its distinctive shape, the tower is one of the most recognizable buildings in Rotterdam.
Euromast was built in 1958–1960 on the edge of a park near the entrance to the Maastunnel. The tower was opened to the public on March 25, 1960, on the occasion of the Floriade flower exhibition held in Het Park. The official opening was made by Princess Beatrix, the future Queen of the Netherlands. The tower is a concrete structure in the shape of a tube with a diameter of 9 meters and walls 30 centimeters thick. Inside is a shaft for two elevators that travel at a speed of 4 m/s and take visitors to a height of 100 meters to a glass-walled restaurant in the shape of a sphere surrounding the tower.
The restaurant called the crow’s nest (Dutch: kraaiennest) was made of steel and assembled at ground level. Then, the 240-ton structure was lifted to a height of 100 meters and mounted around the tower. The same method was used to construct the viewing platform in the form of a replica of the captain’s navigation bridge, which was attached at a height of 32 meters. In order to keep the center of gravity of such a huge structure as low as possible and thus increase its stability, a 1900-ton concrete block was poured underground, which forms the tower’s foundation.
In 1970, an 85-meter superstructure and a rotating, glazed viewing platform were added to the top of the Euromast at a height of 112 meters. The platform rotates slowly, allowing visitors to admire the entire panorama of Rotterdam. In 2010, Euromast was listed as a Dutch monument.

Tickets can be purchased online in advance or at the ticket office. The Euromast is open from 10:00 to 22:00 from Tuesday to Sunday. It is closed on Mondays.
